Retention Initiatives and Student Engagement
Retention Initiatives
Retention initiatives are how we work to support you and your academic success. We focus these efforts on the following high-promise student populations:
- students of color
- first-generation students
- military-connected students
- undocumented students
- first-year students
You will be connected with someone who will assist you if you have difficulties in any of your courses.
Student Engagement
We provide several student engagement programs to ensure you have the resources, guidance, and support you need.
First-Generation Student Success
First-generation students at Madison College can attend a variety of events, join Tri-Alpha (the national First-Gen Honor Society), access scholarships, join our I'm First student organization, and more. Watch our "I'm First" video.
Men of Excellence
The Men of Excellence program is dedicated to helping African American and Latinx males earn their degrees. The program focuses on academics, leadership, personal growth, and professional development within a vibrant learning community.
Scholars of Color Mentoring Program
The Scholars of Color Mentoring Program pairs students with a college staff or faculty mentor. This relationship helps scholars develop life skills, strong character and leadership abilities in one of three cohorts; General, Nursing and Criminal Justice.
TOPS College Success Program
TOPS College Success supports former Madison high school AVID students through tutoring, advising, financial aid assistance, enrichment workshops, and a welcoming community.
TRIO Student Support Services
TRIO serves first generation, income-eligible and students with disabilities through tutoring, advising, financial aid assistance, enrichment workshops, and a welcoming community.
Veterans Resource Services
Veteran Resource Services (VRS) empowers military connected students. We connect vets to campus resources and community partnerships that promote academic, career, and personal success.
