How to Appeal: International Students

If you are on an F-1 visa supported by Madison College, please follow the directions below to appeal your status:

  • Go into your To Do List in your myMadisonCollege Portal where you will find a SAP Appeal Form for requesting reinstatement.
  • Schedule a meeting with your academic advisor, a Madison College counselor, or a student success coach to review the SAP Appeal Form and develop a plan for academic improvement, as needed. To successfully appeal, the academic advisor, counselor, or student success coach must sign the SAP Appeal Form.
  • Upload the completed and signed SAP Appeal Form and supporting documentation, as necessary, to the SAP Appeal Request within the ISS Portal. Click “submit request” to notify CIE that your appeal is ready for review.

If Suspension is Upheld

If an appeal is not submitted by the specified deadline or if the appeal is denied, CIE must report the suspension in SEVIS within 21 days. This would result in termination of legal F-1 visa status. Students in this situation are strongly advised to seek guidance from CIE on options to regain legal F-1 visa status as soon as possible within this 21-day period. Departure from the U.S. as soon as possible upon termination is expected unless actively working with CIE to reinstate legal F-1 visa status.

A request to reinstate F-1 visa status must be filed with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) within 5 months of termination. Upon termination Unlawful Presence immediately begins to be accrued. More than 6 months but less than 1 year of Unlawful Presence may result in a 3-year bar from being eligible to return to the U.S. on any visa type. More than 1 year of Unlawful Presence may result in a 10-year bar.
